Gluten-Free Air Fryer Scotch Eggs

Ingredients (makes 4)

  • 4 large eggs, boiled (soft or hard—your choice)
  • 300–350 g gluten-free sausage meat
You can use GF chicken, beef, or pork mince seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic, and herbs if you prefer.
  • 1 egg, beaten (for coating)
  • ½ cup gluten-free breadcrumbs
    GF panko works best
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt & pepper

How to Boil Eggs

  • Soft-boiled: 6 minutes
  • Medium: 7–8 minutes
  • Hard-boiled: 9–10 minutes
Cool in ice water and peel.

Instructions

  1. Prepare the coating:
Mix GF breadcrumbs with paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Wrap the eggs:
    • Divide the sausage meat into 4 balls.
    • Flatten each one, place the egg in the center, and gently wrap the meat around it until fully sealed.
  3. Coat:
    • Roll each sausage-wrapped egg in beaten egg.
    • Then coat in the seasoned GF breadcrumbs.
(For extra crunch, repeat egg + crumb once more.)
  4. Air fry:
    • Preheat air fryer to 180°C (360°F).
    • Lightly spray the Scotch eggs with oil.
    • Cook 15–18 minutes, turning halfway, until golden and the sausage is cooked through.
    • If they need more browning, add 2–3 extra minutes.

Gluten-Free Notes

  • Make sure breadcrumbs and sausage meat are certified gluten-free.
  • Homemade GF panko: crushed GF cornflakes or GF rice crackers work great.
  • You can also skip breadcrumbs and use almond flour for a low-carb option.

Serving Ideas

  • Serve with mustard, ketchup, or a GF honey-mustard dip.
  • Slice in half for brunch or pack into lunchboxes.
